What to know before you start

Font files contain more than a family name

OpenType metadata can describe family and style names, units per em, ascender and descender metrics, supported glyphs, and naming records. These values help diagnose mismatched webfont files or confirm which asset belongs to a font family before integration.

Metadata does not guarantee licensing or visual quality

Inspecting a file identifies technical properties but does not grant permission to redistribute or embed it. Check the font license separately. Variable axes, advanced layout tables, and rendering behavior can also require specialist tools beyond a first-pass browser report.
