What to know before you start

Pixel dimensions depend on DPI

A physical page has fixed dimensions, but its raster size changes with resolution. Multiply the width and height in inches by the target DPI to estimate pixels. A4 at 300 DPI therefore needs far more pixels than the same A4 page prepared for a 96 DPI screen preview.

Choose the right paper family

ISO A-series sizes keep the same aspect ratio when folded, which is useful for posters and booklets. Letter and Legal use different proportions and are common in North America. Confirm the printer paper, bleed, and trimming requirements before creating final artwork.
